Types of Contraceptives

Hormonal Contraceptives:

• Birth control pills: These are oral pills that contain hormones to prevent ovulation.
• Birth control patches: These are adhesive patches that are applied to the skin and release hormones to prevent ovulation.
• Contraceptive injections: These are injections administered periodically that release hormones to prevent ovulation.
• Contraceptive implants: These are small devices inserted under the skin that release hormones and prevent ovulation for several years.

Barrier methods:

• Male condoms: These are thin sheaths made of latex or polyurethane that are placed over the penis to prevent sperm from entering the vagina.
• Female condoms: These are polyurethane sheaths that are placed in the vagina to prevent sperm from reaching the uterus.
• Diaphragm: This is a silicone cup that is placed in the vagina and covers the cervix to block the passage of sperm.

Other types of contraceptives

Intrauterine devices (IUD):

• Copper IUD: It is a small T-shaped device that is placed inside the uterus and prevents fertilization. It does not contain hormones.
• Hormonal IUD: It is similar to the copper IUD, but it also releases hormones to prevent ovulation and thicken cervical mucus.

Fertility Control Methods:

• Basal Body Temperature Method: This involves monitoring your body temperature daily to identify fertile days and avoiding unprotected sex during that time.
• Cervical Mucus Method: This involves observing and recording changes in the consistency of cervical mucus to determine fertile days and abstaining from unprotected sex at that time.
